Graston Technique (See
CBS Newsblog Presentation)
Graston Technique® is an advanced form of instrument-assisted
soft tissue mobilization that is changing the way soft tissue injuries
are treated. It is a very exciting technique that is revolutionizing
the approach to many conditions previously thought to be untreatable.
Graston Technique® helps to prevent acute conditions from becoming chronic
and can reverse the outcome on conditions once thought to be permanent.
Some of the
conditions treated using this cutting edge technique are cervical sprain/strain
(neck pain), lumbar sprain/strain (low back pain), carpal tunnel syndrome,
plantar fascitis, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), achilles tendonitis,
fibromyalgia, scar tissue, shin splints, and trigger points. Using
these beveled instruments allows the clinician to prevent acute conditions
from becoming chronic, and actually reverses the outcome of conditions
once thought to be permanent.
The Graston instruments, which were developed by two physical therapists,
are patented and have FDA clearance. The six instruments are designed
to treat a variety of conditions. These include sprains and strains
of the spine and extremities, plantar fascitis, carpal tunnel syndrome,
tennis elbow, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, scar tissue, shin splints and
trigger points.
The results are amazing! Patients report an increase in function and decrease
in pain, usually within one or two treatments. Not only are outcomes improved,
but the number of treatments is actually reduced.
Numerous sports teams, such as the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, St. Louis
Cardinals, and Miami Heat, are using the Graston Technique® to
treat their athletes. It is also being used at leading universities and healthcare
institutions.
Dr. Hughes and Dr. Kelian are the only certified Graston Technique® practitioners
in the Huntington area. Since implementing the use of the instruments,
they have seen an improvement in outcomes, along with a decrease
in the number of treatments required.
Graston Technique® is
being used at leading universities and healthcare institutions
as well as by professional sports teams.
